Your First and Last Video Game Report (For Today)

I don’t play many video or computer games, but I recently tried out the Wii because a friend’s kid busted one out at ye olde cabin on a ski trip. I was pretty unenthralled, though to be fair, I was knocked out in Wii boxing by both the 10-year-old and my wife.

Wii has a new game set to come out called Major League Eating. The game will feature a variety of eating techniques including the cram, toss, and typewriter.

Burp-offs and Hot Potato challenges during the contests keep the competition intense and eaters on their toes.

Who knows maybe someday I’ll end up playing this with said kid and it’ll be a laugh. In the meantime I can only wonder if one of the arenas will be the new all-you-can-eat section at Pirates games.

In other video game related action I saw this tidbit (via Baseball Think Factory) saying that 2K Sports, the company making Major League Baseball 2K8, signed a deal with Pitchfork Media (kind of the Deadspin of music sites) to provide music for the game.

Not sure how this will work — back in the day we used to just set up a boom box next to the TV while we played RBI Baseball — but apparently the likes of Dinosaur Jr., Modest Mouse, and The Hold Steady will figure into MLB 2K8. I’m not curious about anything except how the heck they plan to fit these bands into a baseball video game.

No more video game reports? I’d actually really like to see a post about Korean and Japanese baseball video games. I really like the baseball game in Wii Sports.

The public has spoken. I have a love/hate realtionship with the things…I lost a lot of hours to those things when I was a kid. I’ve moved on to much more important hobbies…like blogging.
Actually a good friend of mine writes a video game column for a newspaper. I keep asking him to write something for us, but he never does. Maybe your plea will help something materialize.
