Japanese Baseball Cards — An English Guide To Baseball Cards From Japan linked to EWC in a post today concerning Wally Yonamine cards. The author apparently just finished the Robert Fitts biography on Yonomine and posted a short review along with some jpgs of cards from different points in his career. Follow the link above to see the others.
Also, something else I’ve noticed is that when people write or comment on the book they often go out of their way to say what a nice guy Fitts is. If you like to buy books written by nice guys then The Man who Changed Japanese Baseball might be up your alley.

I can vouch for Fitts-san being a really nice guy. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him on a couple of his trips to Japan. One could say that he’s a little geeky - in the good sense that he’s much like the rest of us.
I’ve noticed that the slightly geeky types tend to do better in Japan than the popular frat-boy types. Those types tend to get what ever they want in the States, then not be able to control things to their liking in Japan. So they whine to the Japan Times about how Japan should change and be more like the States.
But I digress. Fitts-san isn’t one of those people. He’s someone who can focus on a goal and accomplish it without taking the “ends justify the means” method. In other words, he’s a really nice guy, passionate about what he does and how he does it.
As an aside, the first time I met Jackson, he reminded me a great deal of Fitts-san.
