What’s the Most You’ve Ever Paid to See a Ballgame?

I like this poll happening over at Knuckle Curve. Frankly, I’m kind of a cheap-o when it comes to baseball tickets and sports tickets in general. It’s not so much the money, but the principle. It’s hard for me to lay down more than $20 for a game that’s 1-of-162. Concession prices and parking are a real slap in the face too. When all is said and done, you’re looking at  $50 minimum for an average seat at an American park.

I’m one of those jerks that likes to buy a bleacher seat ticket and then move to better seats. I actually enjoy sitting in the bleachers, though I don’t always like the people who sit in the bleachers. Hypocrite, I know.

I think Korean baseball suits me well — $6 for a general admission find-your-own-seat ticket, $8 for the reserved section behind home plate. BYOB.

I agree. The prices are great, and the beer is cheap at the games. Also, the seats are close to the field to get a good look at the players. At Skydome (Rogers Center), all of the players are too far away (even with decent seats). The most I paid there was $24-27, but that was in the mid 1990’s. Parking and food is truly a slap in the face. I had reasonable tickets in Japan, too.

Thanks much for the linkage! Prices are a great selling point for North American minor-league baseball as well. I can get seats directly behind home plate in the California League for $9. Doesn’t get much better than that in my book.

Yeah, not to belabor the point, but when I go to a game I go for the experience. I love checking out stadiums I’ve never been to, sometimes seeing teams I don’t know all that much about.
But as far as seeing a game important to me as a fan, I’d probably rather watch it at home. The Giants park (whatever they’re calling it today) is a beautiful place. I love seeing games there, but the difference between it and the “crap hole” in Oakland isn’t all that huge to me.

I went to one of the Rocks/Phils games in Philly last NLCS. I don’t live in Philly but was there on a business trip and spur of the moment bought 2 tix. $230 total. I don’t usually throw down for that kind of thing, but I figured it was a one time deal. Hopefully for the Rocks it was a one time deal.
