Uh, mercy rule anyone? Taiwan clobbers Hong Kong and China at the Asia Pacific Little League/Pony Qualifiers

Taiwan has been clobbering Hong Kong and China in the Little League and Pony League Asia Pacific regional tournaments. In the Bronco division, Taiwan defeated Hong Kong 29-0 (!) in a matchup that played like an unintentionally comic Pacific theatre re-enactment of the Bad News Bears, sans the uplifting unexpected comeback.

Hearts went out to team Hong Kong’s bespectacled left fielder, who appeared no older than eight years old on the TV broadcast and appeared afraid of the ball. It’s kind of hard to justify allowing a game to reach 29-0. On a positive note, team HK did feature at least two girls, one of whom took a beanball square on the shoulders and showed a lot of courage toughing it out.

At the little league level, Taiwan defeated China 22-1, while team Thailand defeated Team India 30-0. [Note to my boss if you’re reading this: There really are prospects in India. Don’t cancel any future India scouting plans.] Results of these and some less lopsided games (as well as a schedule for the remaining games) can be found here.
