From the Guardian:
The island’s baseball association has applied to WADA to have Chang take another urine test, Taiwan’s Central News Agency reported.
The player may have taken a Chinese cold medication that contains a banned substance, an official with Taiwan’s Olympic Committee told Reuters. Players were advised to avoid these medications during the Games, he said.
“The medications are not illegal, but they’re banned for Olympics athletes,” he said. “I’m not clear on what happened. I’m not a doctor.”
Sounds a little dubious to me, but who knows. Chinese Tapei had no problem with The Netherlands today, shutting them out 5-0. Chin Wei-Yin scattered three hits over went seven innings to pick up the win (box here). The Taiwanese team will play Japan on Thursday evening. The Dutch will take on the Americans in the morning.
In the second morning game the Canadians took it to the Chinese team, crushing the host team by a mercy rule ending 10-0 score. Scott Thorman hit a two run HR in the 4th and Chris Begg threw 6 2/3 innings before giving way to Tim Burton and finally Rheal Cormier, who struck out the side in the final 8th inning (box here).
Canada will play Cuba tomorrow afternoon and China will take on Korea in the morning.

With Rheal Cormier and Tim Burton on the team, how can Canada lose!?

That’s what I was thinking. Sounds like Cormier must have been pumped up getting those three Ks.

He’s high on cold medicine? Now I see why he can’t get to any of those ground balls hit his way…

I really hope the banned substance is rogaine for his sake.

Oh yeah, and Canada’s also got Stubby Clapp, probably the best name in this baseball tournament. Canada probably has the mostest bestest names in this baseball tourney.

Well, i even dont know what rogaine is. Is it something for substance vasodilator? But according to native report and rumor in Taiwan, maybe one of the factor is chicken soup which stew with traditional Chinese herbal medicine for better health.
Another is for “activate sperm” drug. Chang desire to have a child for a long time, but his wife claimed he’d been stopped eating drug for months.
My wonder is, how it works with drug-analyzed organization in Taiwan? Is somethinga little mindless bias? If not, they should exam more precisely.

to Charles, Rogaine is è½å¥ in Taiwan, which is something that the third base slugger probably should have used a long time ago.
But Zhang Tai-shan is not on Chinese medicine or Cold medicine, the Taiwanese TV news media really should learn to find out more facts before putting out speculations as a statement.
Zhang has been using male fertility drug prescribed by his doctor in effort of producing a child for his 9 years old marriage.
The male fertility drug contains some short of anti-estrogen. Zhang is no stranger to international competition, and never had problems with the IOC dope tests before. He claims that he has paused treatment for 2 months prior to the competition, which normally is sufficient for the anti-estrogen to wear off.

Whoever banned 張泰山 should be given a medal from Taiwan.
