Talk about hitting the ground running. Lee Myung-bak, since being elected the new president of South Korea just a couple weeks ago, has already put into motion plans to:
- get rid, of the Unification ministry (a governement organization some would say cowtows to North Korea)
- get rid of the press restrictions put in place by outgoing President Roh
- install giant sea elevators that will transport ships over mountains as part of Lee’s Grand Canal project (a campaign promise to build a canal through the heart of South Korea)
Sure, it’s early in the game, but it’s been an impressive enough display that other Asian countries are wondering (and wondering), who their own version of President Lee might be. Even America is asking.
Lee has also promised to boost South Korea’s GDP to US$40,000, which would rank 7th in the world.
