It’s been a big summer for Yu Darvish, one of Japan’s most exciting prospects in the NPL. He posed nude in a magazine, got a 20-year-old celebrity pregnant, and then really shocked the world when he announced they were engaged.
On Aug. 16 the half-Iranian/half-Japanese pitcher turned 21 celebrating with a one-hitter over eight innings that propelled his Nippon Ham Fighters to an 8-1 win over the Softbank Hawks.
Darvish is 11-4 this season with an ERA hovering around 2.00. He also leads the league in strikeouts.
However the most baseball relevant news from Darvish this week is that he’s officially chosen to be a Japanese citizen and is therefore eligible to play for Japan’s national team in next years 2008 olympics in Beijing. Read the Japan Times story here.
