I mentioned in the comments section of this story I’d been wanting to do a Korean pizza post for a while now. Low and behold, today I found this creation brought to us by Mr. Pizza, which is this fairly mediocre pizza chain mostly aimed at teenage girls. The kind of place with overhead lighting that’s so bright (for better cell phone pic taking) you have to squint while you eat.
If this video isn’t appearing you can go directly to where I got it at Mongdori.
Yes! Finally. Why mess with dinner and then desert when you can eat the two side by side on a pizza? That’s a sweet raisin, sunflower and pumpkin seed crust with chocolate dipping sauce. Top that Simon. Le Grand Prix! Indeed. C’est Magnifique! I like the hapless white chefs in the background too. Still trying to get something out of their same ol same ol pizza. Philistines.
As for what’s on top, lets just assume it involves corn, shrimp and potato and move on.
Here’s another one, brought to you by Domino’s Korea (watch out for some dizzying flash). The Rico Sole Mari pizza. I’m not sure if Rico is as in Puerto Rico or what. The description claims Latin. This gem is topped with tex-mex sauce (a Latin flavor if there ever was one), shrimp, squid, chicken, salsa, mango, avocado, almonds, and spicy sour cream sauce, which serves as the base — where those silly bumbling white guys from the Mr. Pizza commercial would probably put tomato sauce.
Yours for just $34!
Dominos, which is sadly the only pizza in Korea I will consume, releases new flavors every month or so. Last month was Thai.
I remember when I first came to Korea and a Korean asked me, “Don’t you think Korean pizza is better than American pizza?”
Without really thinking I said, “Well, no. In America we eat pizza kind of like Koreans eat kimchi. So…we make it really well. Just like Koreans make really good kimchi.”
I remember the girl looking at me not sure if I was making fun of Korea or not, kind of giggling nervously. I didn’t know it at the time, but the majority of kimchi eaten in Korean restaurants is made in China. Americans eat too much pizza. I still not even sure what I meant by that statement, but I still like to think about it once in a while.

That looks gross!
Reminds me of the first time I took my wife to California. Going to order pizza from the hotel room, and I told her to do it. First communications with anybody in a foreign country. She asks for a large corn and tuna pizza — a which time I yell “Hang it up! Hang up the phone” I’m sure they though it was a prank call.
Silly!

That’s funny. What I remember about pizza in Japan is corn. All the time. With weird meat stuff that looked like sausage. With shrimp. With salami. I just remember corn.

Wow, that’s overkill! I saw something in my local pizza flyer recently, will dig it up, or post something over at my own blog and link to you. This can be a fun ongoing project with the new flavours coming out every month/season.

Actually, the Rico Sole Pollo on a thin crust, with chicken, not shrimp, is teh hawsome! It’s the only pizza I ever order anymore. I’ll be sad when they change it for something else.
