Oh Daahling, Wot a Lovlahie Tattoo

January 2nd, 2008 Shinsano · 2 Comments

A British girl, thinking she was getting the nickname of her boyfriend tattooed on her tummy, found out after they broke up that the tattoo doesn’t actually mean “Roo,” as she thought it did.

Now this gets a little more interesting because apparently it doesn’t mean “supermarket” either, as all British media outlets (including the BBC) are reporting.

There’s a good discussion on what the characters mean or don’t mean in the comments section of this site. One reader theorizes that it reads more like the name of the supermarket. If that’s the case some advertising royalties could be in store for this girl and her tummy.

Also funny is the fact that the girl chose the characters from letter based translations, thinking each of the three characters spelled individual letters, as in “R-O-O.”

Shite, I’d better check to see if the Tat I got across my 6 pack washboard stomach really means “THUG LIFE” in Chinese the way the guy at the shop in Kaohsuing told me it did.
