Pink Tentacle has an amusing post about samurai dog armor, which nowadays sits in a museum in the UK, but once upon a time was probably worn as a decorative costume for parades and other ceremonial occasions during the mid to mate Edo period (mid-18th to mid-19th century.
The helmet is made of wood and is carved and the coat is a black-lacquered scale mail.
