Tong-Yi Lions staff ace Pan Hui-Lun threw a no-hitter Thursday night in rainy Tainan Stadium, leading the Lions to a 7-0 victory against the punchless Chinatrust Whales. His game marked only the 6th no-no in CPBL history.
Pan, who has won 14 consecutive games in Tainan stadium, narrowly missed a perfect game, his only baserunner allowed coming on first baseman Kao Kuo-Ching’s error in the top of the first inning. Pan’s location was impeccable as he fed the Whales’ a steady diet of 144 KPH cut fastballs.
Pan improved to 7-1 on the season with a 1.93 E.R.A.
Sources tell us Pan learned his cutter as a high school student from Texas Rangers’ International Scout Jim Colborn, a former 20-game winner for the Milwaukee Brewers and well-respected former pitching coach in Japan and the U.S.
