Nan Ying High School Ace Huang Wei-Sheung Headed to Atlanta

June 30th, 2008 Jackson · 3 Comments

It’s official: Taiwan’s storied Nan-Ying High School’s staff anchor, 5′11 Right-hander Huang Wei-Sheung, is headed for the Atlanta Braves.  The move, which area baseball afficionados had been anticipating for quite some time, nets $120,000 for Huang and gets the Braves a battle-tested if not unspectacular arm. Huang, who has hit 89 but sits on 85-87 mixed with several serviceable breaking pitches, will join recently signed Tainan Marine catcher Tsai Meng-Hsiu in the states.

Good luck to Huang and Tsai–who are both good natured kids– as they begin their journey to the drrrty south and the ATL. Hopefully they’ll pick up on some of the local culture there.

The Atlanta catcher correct name is Tsai Meng-Hsiu, with Tsai being the family name.

Thanks David. And to think I’ve actually talked to Tsai before and still got his name wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time.

Corrections have been made. Xie Xie. (Hsieh Hsieh?)
