Mysterious Death of Model, or Maybe Prostitute, Shocks Korea/China

Odd story here. Let’s start with the death of a Chinese woman in Guangzhou, China early this month. Local police believes she was a sex worker, but now it seems she may not have been.

Also in the room; three South Korean men working for an unnamed South Korean airline.  The woman, Tan Jing, 24,  was found sometime on April 5. She was bleeding, half-naked, wearing only a bra and pink shorts, and was hanging from a railing between the 12th and 13th floors of an apartment building.

After an initial investigation, police believed that Tan had been pushed by three men from the bathroom window of a 30th floor apartment, which had been rented by a South Korean. Some reports cited a neighbor as saying that he had heard an argument at around 3 a.m. between people speaking English and Korean, in which a woman shouted, “How can three people pay one combined fee?” A security guard at the apartment building also told police that three foreign men and a young woman, all drunk, entered the building early in the morning.

Ok, so she was killed, right? Not so fast.

But a doctor who examined the body said that Tan was not a prostitute and there were no signs that she had been raped. He noted that her blood alcohol level was three times the acceptable level, and her body had received multiple fractures in the fall, leading police to believe her death was a suicide or an accident.

Oh, so maybe she wasn’t killed. What, she fell?

Of course this is just an article in a Korean, English-language newspaper, so we don’t have all the facts. But this last bit, saved for the end of the story seems rather telling if it’s true.

Local newspapers are still raising suspicions, saying that three South Korean men who work for an airline were with her before she died and have since fled to Mexico via South Korea.

My guess is that this isn’t the last we’ve heard of this…

I have no idea how the Chinese media will handle this, but I can see the Korean media coming to the defense of the three Korean guys.

When I was living there, the Korean media raised a big stink over a Korean guy killed at the end of a car chase in L.A. despite the fact that his SUV had lurched toward a police officer who was pinned against a wall in front of the vehicle. The cops had given the guy ample chance to surrender before the fatal shooting. So why any Korean would defend him, especially since Korea is a low crime society, is beyond me. You decide to play with the big boys and you pay big boy penalties and that dude got what he deserved. Don’t come to my country and lead police on dangerous chases, you shitwad.
