I can say with certainty if this game were played in Korea it would be called Us vs. Them or Foreigners vs. Us. On the cusp of All-star Weekend MLB tones this idea down just a touch, but still calls it the awkward Team USA vs. Team World.
It is…The Futures Game
The hero of the game was Lin Che-hsuan, one of the bigger signings out of Taiwan during the past year…although you wouldn’t know it from the article of the game on MLB.com. Despite the fact that Lin was the game’s MVP the first mention of him comes in the 16th paragraph of the story. The title of another article labels him an unsung Red Sox prospect. What the hell does that mean? When is a prospect unsung? Unheralded, perhaps. But even that’s awkward. He’s a hero but no one knows it? I guess burying the game MVP in the 16th paragraph of the main game report certainly makes him unsung.
Anyway, the lone Asian representative for Team World hammered the first pitch he saw at Yankee Stadium off the apparently much-heralded and oft-sung Rockies prospect Ryan Mattheus just inside the foul pole to put Them up 3-0, which would be the final score of the game.
Lin is hitting leadoff at Class A Greenville, where he is hitting .251 with five homers, 34 RBIs and 26 unsung stolen bases. You can find a post game video interview with him Here.Box score here.

Note: BP’s Joe Sheehan also has a write up of the game…. although BP has no info on Lin either.
