Proving that besides being a cram-school teacher, being a left-handed pitcher who can throw above 8o miles an hour is the surest guarantee of employment out there, former Mets and Dodgers pitcher Kazuhisa Ishii signed a two-year, 800 Million yen deal with the Pacific League’s Seibu Lions, leaving the Yakult swallows.
Ishii stated his goal was “keeping his winning percentage above .500″ and winning big games. Dream big, Ishii-san.
Ishii’s career has been a case study in slightly above average-ness, as the lefty has a 98-63 recored with a 3.47 ERA in 300 career starts in Japan, and posted a 39-34 record in the majors in 2002-2005. He went 9-10 with a 4.16 ERA in 2007 for the swallows.
