LSD Pond

One thing I’ve always appreciated about Philadelphia’s Bardo Pond is its utter lack of pretension. BP plays guitar music that people like to accentuate with all sorts of descriptions — noise, space rock, acid rock, post-rock, experimental — but this is guitar rock in the truest sense. This is more like Pink Floyd or Spacemen 3 than anything, and so in this sense its totally accessible to most anyone who likes guitar rock music.

The Japanese (from Himeji) psychedelic rock group LSD March is typically less accessible, but on this collaboration with Bardo Pond — plainly dubbed LSD Pond — what we’re getting a slightly wilder version of Bardo Pond.

There’s not much in the way of vocals here, which is too bad because BP’s Isobel Sollenberger has a lovely voice. But she does make her presence known. Unfortunately I’m not hearing anything from LSD March vocalist Shinsuke Michishita.

I’m going to operate under the assumption that a lot of readers haven’t heard Bardo Pond or LSD March, so I’m going to include a track here. I apologize for posting it in this fashion, but the normal music player plugin isn’t working. My suggestion is to open this link in a separate window. If you have quicktime they’ll start playing within a a minute or so.

Tamerai to Kurushimi
