In what sounds like a good old-fashioned barnstorming sideshow, a contest called “The Million Dollar Arm” recently wrapped up qualifying rounds at various colleges in northern India.

As you may know Cricket, not baseball, is popular in India but sports marketing companies  on both sides of the Pacific have set up the contest in part to spread the love of the grand game, and also to potentially find some rubber arms in the second most populous country in the world. Winners from the qualifying rounds will convene in New Dehli in February to compete for a cool mil.

According to an article in expressindia.com most of the boys are hitting 80 to 85 on the radar. The minimum speed needed to advance is 80 mph. Good thing that guy the Reds just dealt Josh Hamilton for isn’t Indian.

The winner of the finals will be the contestant who throws the most strikes out of 10 pitches with a speed of 90+ MPH. He’ll also be sent to the U.S. to train for 12 months and eventually get the chance to strut his stuff in front of scouts.
