Winged reptilian team SK decends upon first seed in Korean league

With just two weeks to play and a six game lead the SK Wyverns look solid as the number one seed in their quest for their first-ever KBO championship.

SK is led by pitcher Kenny Rayborn and a stingy sub 2 ERA bullpen. Its team offense is incredibly balanced, ranking first or second in every major statisitcal category, without a single player in the Top 5 in any (with the exception of infielder Jung Kun-woo who’s 4th in hitting).

However, with just two weeks to play, and seeds two, three and four as yet to be decided, the battle between Doosan, Samsung and Hanhwa looks to be going down to the wire.

In the Korean playoffs seeding is of paramount importance. The No. 4 seed will face the No. 3 in a best-of-three series, with the winner facing off against the No. 2 seed in a best-of-five series.

The winner of that series would play likely division winner SK in a best-of-seven series for the KBO championship.

The LG Twins, currently in 5th place closed out August strong, winning 8 of their last 10  , but have faltered (going 1-6-1) in a September that has seen nearly as many KBO rainouts as completed games.

Still, LG has an outside shot at squeezing into the playoffs due to a fairly week schedule down the stretch that includes several games vs. the utterly mediocre Lotte Giants.

The team no one wants to play is the Samsung Lions, who over the past 20 games have played at a .700 clip.  Samsung has been pushing Doosan for the second seed and is trying to win its third title in four years.

Samsung is led by veteran Shim Jung-soo, who after missing most of last year with an injury, is at 26 HRs and in a tight battle with former White Sox prospect Cliff Brumbaugh of the Hyundai Unicorns and Lee Dae-ho of the Lotte Giants, for the home run crown.
