The KBO ended on the same note it has been playing much of the year: a rainout.
The final game of the season, a make up of an earlier rainout, was also rained out as a Typhoon swept across South Korea Sunday afternoon. Because Hanwha must begin it’s playoff series vs. Samsung on Tuesday, the game against last place Kia will (mercifully, for all involved) not be made up on Monday.
So here are the final standings:
As you can see the only major movement in the past week was Hyundai overtaking Lotte for 6th place. It puts an exclamation point on what has been a sad campaign for Lotte, who has one of the KBO’s brightest stars in Lee Dae-ho.
It also marks the last time you will see the name Hyundai, who will change its sponsorship and be known as STX from next year. One can only hope they do away with the Unicorn mascot as well.
The first round of the playoffs will pit last year’s champion Samsung Lions versus the Hanwha Eagles, who after being in the No. 5 position for much of August, roared back to to the No. 3 seed.
Both Samsung and Hanwha have high-power offenses, which should make for an exciting series. We’ll have a preview right here before Tuesday’s game.
The 1st round schedule will progress as follows:
10/9 at Hanwha
10/10 at Samsung
10/12 at Hanwha (if necessary)
The winner will draw Daniel Rios and the No. 2 seed Doosan Bears in a best-of-five series starting Oct. 14. The winner of that series will go up against the regular season winner and No. 1 seed SK Wyverns in a best-of-seven series starting Oct. 22.

what happened ove the weekend with lotte and Samsung? I saw the highlights on SBS Sports. It looked like the Lotte African-American just hit a home ruN AND AS HE WAS ROUNDING 3RD BASE HE WAS HIT WITH A WATER BOTTLE. Then he was shaking hand with his teammates and something happened. All i know is that the Black ballplayer threw his bat into the stands. then all hell broke loose, more water bottles were thrown, the Lotte team packed up and started to leave, one Lotte giant player has to be physically restrained from leaving, then the fans went crazy and started throwing more water. Then the fans started yelling and then the black player threw something at the netting and the crowd went at it again.
In the 3 years I have watched Korean Baseball here in Daejeon, I have never seen anything like that. Please try and get video of this weird event
I will be at the game on the 9th. GO EAGLES

You might be talking about Jose a few years ago. Maybe you saw a highlight. That was a crazy game.

It’s definately the Felix Jose game. I think it was 1999 Lotte vs. Samsung in the No. 2 vs. No. 3 series.
I’ve been wanting to put that on the site…this’ll get me off my butt. Look for it Tuesday as part of a Hanwha/Samsung playoff preview
