It looked like a typical SK Wyverns win-solid pitching, spotless defense and timely hitting. But this wasn’t any ordinary win for the Korean league champions, who dealt the Japanese representative its first ever Konami Cup loss, defeating the Chunichi Dragons 6-3 at the Tokyo Dome.
Kim Gwang-hyun (19), who dominated a pivotal Game 4 vs. Doosan in the KBO series, tossed 6 2/3 innings of solid ball, striking out five and giving up just one run to get the win. Korean series MVP Kim Jae-hyun carried his hot hitting over to Japan doubling twice and scoring on an error by Ryota Araiin in the fourth to break a scoreless tie.
After allowing a base-runner in the seventh Kim was removed for Cho Woong-chun, who promptly gave up a home run to Inoque Kazuki to cut the lead to 6-2. Chunichi would add another run in the eighth, but SK relievers Ga Duk-yeom and closer Jung Dae-hyun shut the door on the NPB champs in the ninth for the win.
In the early game the Uni Lions defeated a game Chinese team, who nearly pulled off an upset and led the Taiwanese Champs throughout much of the contest. But after walking the bases loaded in the seventh inning designated hitter Lien-Hung Chen hit a grand slam to put the Lions up 6-4.
The Lions would add another HR in the seventh and go on to win the contest 9-5. The Taiwanese representitive will take on Chunichi tomorrow evening and SK will play the Chinese team in the afternoon game.

Team China now has MLB players playing for them. They sent up Scott Kazmir to start, and then sent up Brad Lidge in relief.
