BK Kicked to the Curb Again

August 17th, 2007 Shinsano · 2 Comments

Kim Byung-hyun’s 2007 MLB NL whirlwind tour came to an abrupt halt when the Diamondbacks relased the 28-year-old for what one would think might be the last time.

Yet, hope springs eternal and like the Rockies and Marlins before the D-backs, one has to think one more contending team might be willing to take a chance on the, er, spunky, submariner from Gwangju.

In his first start for the D-backs Kim retired seven batters, and gave up four earned runs against the Pirates. Taking the kid gloves off for his second start, Kim got the Marlins the second time around. Oddly, he was reportedly mobbed by his former Marlin teammates who apparently can’t get enough of the man known as BK here in Korea.

It’s possible the mobbing had something to do with the general excitement in facing Kim as a starting pitcher in MLB. His Aug. 14 start lasted just 1/3 an inning, giving up three runs on four hits.

Kim hasn’t annouced what he’ll do yet. Following this year’s trajectory Kim will likely do another tour of duty with his second team (Red Sox) or the next most recent expansion team (D-Rays). The solemn word from Korea’s Dong-A Ilbo
