EWC Goes to Trial: KBO Star Arrested for “Seduction”

December 4th, 2008 Shinsano · 2 Comments

Yes, welcome to Korea where you can not only get sent to jail for a year-and-a-half for adultery (if you’re a woman), but apprently for seduction as well.

Guilty as charged. Ahem. The story only identifies the player as “Mr. A,” but he was arrested in Inchon and is a “star” player. Apparently police waited to make the arrest so that the player could participate in the Korean Series. Photographic evidence follows.

First, the story from Korea Beat:

…the police arrested Mr. A because a woman, Ms. B, made a report to the Namdong Police Department in Incheon that “Mr. A should be punished because he slept with me on the pretense he wanted to marry me.” According to Mr. A’s statement, he had decided to break up with her because of unending rumors that “Ms. B was meeting other guys.”

(snip)

A member of the team which investigated Mr. A said in an interview with the Sports Chosun that, “we were really worried because of A being in the Korea Series.”

Prime Suspects:

This is SK pitcher Chae Byeong-ryong from a Korea Beat post dated Oct. 8, 2008. As you can see Chae is proposing to a woman approximately 1/3 his size on top of the fan platform at an SK Wyvrens home game.

My guess is Chaehasn’t yet tied the knot with this woman. Could she be the mysterious Ms. B from the story? Difficult to tell. If there were another clue in the story, like “The seducer is also charged with eating Ms. B’s purse,” or, “The wedding buffet was paid for by Ms. B’s family but the money never refunded” we might be on to something. As it stands now I can’t say I think it’s Chae.

From an EWC post in late September.

Oh, this isn’t looking good. Not at all…

The sign reads: Kim Kwang-hyun you are mine…I am your perfect bride.

I think we have our “Mr. A.” As the KBO’s top player and MVP he obviously fits the “star” tag. It’s unclear how long they may have known each other prior to this sign being made. I thinking this may have been the night they met as the woman doesn’t appear to be in any state of duress.

However, I would like to introduce an exhibit C if you will. More photographic evidence that I believe proves that this woman committed her own crime on this same night. I’m not sure how Korean law works — in fact, no one really does — but this new charge may just clear Kim of the ”seduction” charges.

Ms. B, you are being brought up on charges of 웨딩드레스 입고 섹시 댄스 (Sexy Dancing in a Wedding Dress) by East Windup Chronicle.

We’ll see you in court.

Maybe we’re looking in the wrong direction. This could account for Kim Hyeon-su’s poor performance in the Korea Series.

[...] Anyway, East Windup Chronicle has some ideas who the lying bastard might be. [...]
