I think it’s safe to say that James, your host of The Grand Narrative, has a bit of a passive aggressive relationship with putting sex on his blog. Takes one to know one. At any rate, let’s just say these days GN is in the mood, and this post about Japanese Schoolgirl Sex Codes is a good read.

He’s linking to a story on Asian Offbeat that breaks down the odd world of “coding” used by teenage prostitutes. Here’s an excerpt from the story:

‘IkebLURV1700Yukichi2JC1,’ stands for a message meaning: ‘First year junior high schoolgirl, can meet for love in Ikebukuro from 5 p.m. with sex costing 20,000 yen.

At first glance, the above looks like nothing more than gobbledygook, but Japanese newspaper Nikkan Gendai says it’s actually an elaborate code used by a schoolgirl prostitute ring cops broke up this week.

Saitama Prefectural Police have already taken into custody five schoolgirls ranging from junior high school to high school pupils, accusing them of breaking the Matchmaking Site Regulation Law by running a bulletin board offering sexual services performed by junior high and elementary school girls.

Also in the post is an item (pictured above) selling at toy stores in Japan. That’s one aspect of Japan that never ceases to amaze me. I’m not necessarily condemning it and I write that with some hesitation. I don’t know what to say about it quite honnestly. As James writes in his post, the photo is a reminder of just how different Korea and Japan can sometimes be.
