The Philippine Bureau of Immigration has started deportation hearings on a case filed against Korean Young Yun-youn, who was involved in an altercation with North Cotabato Vice-Governor Emmanuel Piñol in a golf course in Davao City last month.
Young allegedly swung his golf club at Vice-Governor Emmanuel Piñol and displayed, according to an article in the Davo Sun Star; “arrogant behavior.”
“He does not deserve to stay in my country,” Piñol said. The vice governor reiterated his sentiment that the offense made by the Korean national was not an offense against him as a person but was an offense against the Filipino nation.
“It is high time that Filipinos stand up,” Piñol added.

This story doesn’t surprise me in the least. It’s unfortuante though, that some of the more flatterring stories involving Koreans abroad don’t draw so much attention as this one. For instance, stories involving Korean doctors travelling around the world to help alleviate poverty, and all on their own dime too. Nevertheless, if class A assholes like this guy continue behaving like this when abroad, well then I’m afraid that Koreans are going to become the “Ugly Americans” of Southeast Asia.
