Giants Saved From Themselves, Lincecum Ready to Bust Out

December 23rd, 2007 Jackson · 1 Comment

Anyone who was paying attention to the hot stove league this winter knows that the Giants, architects of possibly the worst trade of all time (Francisco Liriano, Joe Nathan, and Boof Bonser to the Twins in exchange for A.J. Pierzynksi!!), almost did it to themselves again by shipping superstar pitcher in the waiting Tim Lincecum for Toronto OF Alex Rios.

Not that Rios is a bad player–he’s a legit All-Star caliber outfielder.  But when you have a top #1 superstar in the waiting at a premium position, you don’t trade him.  Not when he throws like a right-handed version of Sandy Koufax.  The above video is cool not only for how it breaks down Lincecum’s unique mechanics that allow him to generate power from his waist while keeping his arm loose, but also for its side-by-side comparisons to Koufax’s and Roy Oswalt’s delivery.  Do yourself a favor and check it out.

I watched the video on Tim Lincecum. I don’t see the similiarity between Koufax and Oswalt though. The side by side comparisons between Oswalt and Lincecum show Oswalt to be compact while Lincecum bends his whole torso around. It was pretty interesting to see the three different pitchers and to concentrate on their movements.
