Nikkan sports has released a list of the major players in Japan who will become free agents after the 2008 season. Uehara Koji heads a list that includes Chunichi’s Kawakami Kenshin and prized lefty Iwase Hitoki–all of whom should command high salaries from MLB clubs.
And then there’s the rumor that that one Dervish? Delvish? Darmish? rock star guy will get posted. But don’t get Aaron started on that one. A throrough discussion of the topic with both useful info and the usual whining about all the good NPB players heading for MLB can be found here courtesy of the benevolent Westbay-san’s Japanese Baseball forum.

It’ll be interesting, but I think the market is a little down for these guys on the list — two of the three RPs signed last offseason are in the minors and I wouldn’t say Kobayashi has been worth his price either. Add in the fact that Okajima has ranged from mortal to bad and you have two guys in Iwasse and Uehara that would have commanded a lot more money last year.
But it’ll all be blown out of the water if Darvish and/or Fujikawa are available.
