Here are some really great photos of Japanese highway interchanges by Ken Ohyama, originally posted by Pink Tentacle. This is the Hakozaki Junction.
This is the Hokko Junction, which Wikipedia lists as being part of the Hanshin Expressway, which runs through Kyoto, Kobe and Osaka.

Yeah, some of the interchanges and onramps in Tokyo are quite incredible, feels like you’re on a rollercoaster sometimes (probably not ideal), but with the lack of space highways get stacked up vertically too.

If you want to see something even cooler than that, the Japanese have been working a huge infrastructure project shoring up all of its underground utility lines in preparation for the next great Tokyo earthquake (which is about ten years overdue; it used to happen approximately every 75 years). The History Channel has a series on what goes on underground in places around the world and they have all been fascinating. Get a relative to record it for you. Really good stuff.

This is not attractive and this kind of visual vandalism is too common in Japan. The photos are also dressed up - these things are polluted and dirty.
