Simple question, EWC readers: Who are the best free agent signings from this year’s crop of free agents? If you were a GM, who would you want in your lineup? Fukudome, surgery and all? Kawakami? An under the radar-type that costs significantly less?
We leave it up to you: Who do you want playing for your team and why? (For a complete list of free agents click here).

Uehara’s not a free agent.

Indeed. Apparently because of his injury he fell short of the service time necessary. Thanks for the heads up. From MLB Trade Rumors:
Koji Uehara Not Eligible For Free Agency
We’ve spilled a decent amount of Internet ink on righty pitcher Koji Uehara. He’s a control pitcher and longtime starter who was used in relief by the Yomiuri Giants this season (perhaps to spite him).
Now comes word that the hamstring injury that knocked him out for the season’s first month caused him to fall just short of the service time needed for free agent eligibility. Unless the Giants post him (unlikely), he’s off the radar for MLB teams this winter. (Thanks to Mike Plugh of Uehara Watch for the info). Fortunately for MLB fans, Kosuke Fukudome did maintain eligibility despite an injury late in the year.

I like the Cubs getting their hands on Fukudome. Put him in the two-hole and ride that high .OBP to 100 runs scored. If they sign Matsui as it looks like they might, Fukudome could be a possibility. Add that to what they already have and it could be something nice.

I’m kind of hoping for Fukudome to head to San Francisco. The Giants have a huge, over-sized hole in their lineup…who’s going to bat cleanup for them? Ray Durham? Aurilia?
Not that Fukudome should be a cleanup hitter.
Man, the Giants lineup is a mess.
I’m not even a fan and I don’t even want to think about it anymore.

Besides, as a team on the west coast the Giants should be looking to build an Asian fan/player base to attract more of both. They’re actually way behind on this already.

I’m solid behind this Kuroda to Seattle deal. I think as a 4 guy in the rotation he’s perfect. He’s potentially a number 2. Now if we can just get some reliable set up men…….
