With 6 games left in the regular season, the China Professional Baseball League (CPBL) is winding down with a hot 3-team race.

The playoff seeds consist of the three top teams from the regular season-with 1st half winner Macoto Cobras already guaranteed a spot–and will crown a champion in the Taiwan Series in the month in October.

The winner will represent Taiwan in the Konami Cup in Japan with the champions from Japan, South Korea, and an all-star team from Mainland China to determine an Asian champion in November.

While the playoff system in Taiwan requires a degree in advanced calculus to understand entirely, the seeding goes something like this:

The Cobras won the first half season title with a 28-21 record - with a .571 WP. The second half winner will be either the Lions (28-15), Bears (27-16) or Whales(26-19) .  The Whales have to win the second-half title or go home.

The Lions this year have been led by the lights-out pitching of former Houston Astros SP Pete Munro -best known for being one of several Astros (the other being Roy Oswalt, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel, and Billy Wagner) to combine on a no-hitter against the Yankees on June 11th, 2003. Munro is 14-6 and currently leads the CPBL with a 1.64 ERA.
