Chunichi Dragons Cheer Squads Banned by NPB

Amusing little tidbit on Simon Currie’s site, about two Chunichi Dragons cheering squads, known as Hakuryukai (White Dragons Club) and Ryushinkai (Dragon Spirit Club), that have been banned from all NPB stadiums. Apparently the offending groups have a history of hording outfield seats, being rude, excessive public intoxication, and best of all…ties to organized crime gangs known as boryokudan. Lovely.

Good thing Dustin Pedroia didn’t tell these guys to shut up.

According to Simon:

In response to this news, all Chunichi ouendans (there are way more than 2) will not lead any cheering, and definitely not with the usual drums and trumpets (though the Chiba Lotte Marines supporters use a soccer/football style cheering using mostly just their voice and hands, pretty amazing sight and sound in their unison).

Criminal gangs do target cheering groups. Hanshin Tigers have had problems with criminal gang related groups. They used to demand fees from ordinary fans to sit in the gaia and others claimed royalties for Tigers players songs from the club. Well done Dragons
