In what started as a promising season for Choo Shin-soo ended with the young outfielder going under the knife on Tuesday.
Choo will reportedly be able to swing a bat by spring 2008, but there is some doubt whether he will be ready to play in the field. The surgery was on his left elbow. Choo bats and throws lefthanded.
Choo, who was acquired by the Indians last summer from the Mariners for Ben Broussard. He was penciled in as the Indians starting left fielder early this year, until the signing of Trot Nixon just before the season started.
Choo started the season in AAA before being called up to the Indians in late April. The elbow problem was first reported during spring training and eventually forced him to miss nearly all of July and August. He returned to the Buffalo AAA club in late August.
