They Are the Children

July 11th, 2009 · 2 Comments

A pretty homey hometowney article with eggs sunnyside up and a side of golden brown hashbrowns and some different jams in a container with some Sweet and Low and Equal that a few people have picked between their teeth with by Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette. Sometimes I wonder why I link to this [...]

Rinku Singh Gets Another Inning

July 8th, 2009 · 16 Comments

I won’t every update on every inning these guys pitch, but thought I’d sneak one in after in the post-hype of the debut. After giving up a run in his first inning Singh came back the next day against the GCL Yankees.
Singh hit Mitchell Delaney with a pitch, but then got Benjamin Gonzalez to ground [...]

July 1st, 2009 · No Comments

I’ve been following the box scores of the GCL Pirates over the past week or so, waiting to see the names of Rinku and Dinesh. The closest thing I’ve found is Mpho’ Gift Ngoepe, the South African the Pirates signed last year. Incidentally, he’s 3-for-12 and is usually hitting leadoff.

A Short Film About Pitching in India

December 8th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Or, “The Two Indian Pitchers Signed by the Pirates go to Hooters.”
DJ sent this along actually, it’s a five-minute video chronicling the assent of Rinku and Dinesh that has the feel of a Disney production. Supposedly Disney is looking to make a film about the two so this clip may even be connected to that.

Winter in Chicago…Summer in Taiwan?

December 7th, 2008 · 16 Comments

This photo, posted today on Bleed Cubbie Blue, really struck me. It was taken at 2 a.m. on Saturday night. I had a long distance relationship with a woman in Chicago for about a year and I have great affection for the city and scenes like this. This despite the fact that I ended up [...]

November 25th, 2008 · 12 Comments

We’ve been following the saga of Dinesh Patel and Rinku Singh since they won the Million Dollar Arm contest.  Since they just signed with the Bucs, we though it would be useful to readers to get some information on the players and their attributes, so here’s a brief write up to get to know the [...]

Pirates Sign First India-born Major Leaguers

November 25th, 2008 · 1 Comment

As was reported first on NPB Tracker with a Japan Yahoo! story and then confirmed later by ESPN, the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel, the two boys from India that were found at the “Million Dollar Arm” contest that took place last year that I’ve covered in posts, here and here [...]

Operation Rabindranath Kofax Nears Fruition

November 6th, 2008 · 12 Comments

This story more or less made my day. Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel, the two  boys from India  that participated in  the Million Dollar Arm challenge I reported on here and here, have finished their pitching lessons/transformation, and will have a tryout tomorrow in front of some 20 major league scouts.
One year ago neither had [...]

Still Looking For Ramakrishna Maddux

May 13th, 2008 · 5 Comments

I like the idea of MLB teams scouting in India. Even better, I like the idea of the Cubs sending me to scout in India. I’d even go so far as to say there might be a better chance of finding a hidden gem in India than China, seeing as cricket isn’t entirely dissimilar from [...]
