Tigers Sign Amateur Lefty Lo Hua-wei

The Detroit Tigers remained active in Taiwan this week, signing 5′10 plus lefty Lo Hua-wei.  Lo, who enrolled in Kainan University post graduation, came out of San Hsin high school, which also produced recent Cubs signings RHP Wang Tsu-an and RHP Wang Yao-lin.

Cubs Sign Wang Tsu-an

According to Taiwan Baseball, The Chicago Cubs have signed their third player in Taiwan this year, inking 6′5 Sanhsin HS righty Wang Tsu-an to a minor league deal with a signing bonus reportedly exceeding 300,000.

Pirates Sign Another from Taiwan High School Ranks

Pirates Sign Taiwanese High School Outfielder Chi Ping-hong

Tigers to Call Up Ni Fu-te

Not official yet, but sources indicate that pitcher Ni Fu-te will be called up to the Detroit Tigers from AAA Toledo early this week. Ni put up sharp numbers for the Mud Hens–he was 3-0 with a 2.65 E.R.A. with 32 K’s to 9 walks and a 1.15 WHIP in 34 innings pitched.

Cubs Sign Chen Pin-chie

The Cubs continued their spending ways in Taiwan this week, signing Nan Ying high school second baseman Chen Pin-chie to a minor league deal. Pin Chie was the big ticket offensively this year in Taiwan, and reportedly received a signing bonus upwards of 300,000.

Sophiya Liu: Taiwan’s First Female Umpire in Chief
