Bugs and Cranks Top 30

I’m going to be voting in Bugs and Cranks’ weekly Top 30 ranking of MLB teams during the season. I’m a sucker for these power ranking kind of thangs, so it’s an honor to be able to add my two cents on such an illustrious site. Don’t sigh at the use of “honor” and “illustrious” there. I mean it.

I’d consider doing something really egotistical and posting my own Top 30 next to the B&C final result, but frankly, I lost all my data in this recent computer fritz, which I think I’ve mentioned two or three times now, using the word “fritz” each time. I’ll do it next week.

I will say my Top 3 are Boston, Cleveland and the Yanks. I have Detroit at #8, something I’m growing more adamant about by the day. That pitching staff is pretty terrible if you stare at it for more than 10 seconds. I also have the Angels — minus Lackey and Escobar — outside the top 10. I’m also really starting to warm to the idea of the Diamondbacks being a great team this year. I have them at #7.

Not sure how the Reds ended up #20 here, but I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that the Rays are #14. That’s not to say that the #1 entry on the Rays Apologist Top 5, David Chalk (the other four on the list play or work for the Rays), had anything to do with that. But that’s not to say I’m entirely dismissing the idea either.

If you want a laugh on the MLB power rankings front, check out Larry Stone’s version on Sundays in the Seattle Times (provided that he will still do them this year).
