Bonds, Circa 1997

February 3rd, 2008 Shinsano · No Comments

I’m a little late on this, but this is a piece by Geoff Young, using an article in the STATS 1997 Baseball Scoreboard, which featured Bill James projection system of the day (called Brock6) to attempt to answer the question “What will the remainder of Barry Bonds career look like?” As you can imagine, the thinking in 1996, when Bonds was supposedly heading into a mid-30s decline, is a bit different from what transpired over the next few years. At the end of the day some of the projections are remarkably accurate. The HR numbers are obviously out of whack, but the runs and RBIs are pretty spot on.

The article from The Hardball Times is here.
