After I read this story on Korea Beat I couldn’t stop thinking (and chuckling) about it.
The piece is originally from the Sports Hankook and details the recent arrest of four men for what looks to be a long-standing, elaborate golf hustle.
According to police, at a golf course in Yongin on September 12th, Lim and the others were with a Mr. Park (46) when they slipped a sedative into his drink and then played with him for 2 million per hole and 20 million won for shooting under one’s handicap, ultimately taking up to one hundred million won from him on 17 separate occasions from June through October for a total of 340 million won.
1 million won equals roughly $1,000.
The police investigation concluded that Lim and the others approached Mr. Park at the golf course and said, “you have good form. If it’s alright with you how about playing together?” and then took his money through the betting.
But the real clincher, the way these guys made it all happen, was the special sauce they got their victims to drink.
The men, who normally shot in the low 80s to low 90s, were able to take the money of Mr. Choi, who went from shooting an average 74 into the high 80s after being fed the drug-laced drink.
