Interesting roundup courtesy of What Japan Thinks, of Japanese beer commercials. As opposed to commercials in the UK or US Japanese beer ads are free to focus on the act of drinking the beer itself. The post has a host of then and now beer commercials via YouTube along with some statistics from an Internet survey concerning frequency and effectiveness of Japanese beer advertising.
I thought this one was particularly funny. Initially I thought that was Leonardo Dicaprio on the freeze frame, but it turns out it’s a young Helena Bonham-Carter. The beer is Suntory The Premium Malts.
I also enjoyed this one by Sapporo Black Label, featuring X-treme ping-pong.

These are pathetic - the ones to look out for are the Asahi Green adverts featuring the comedy group - The Drifters.

Is that Julian Sands with Ms. Bonham-Carter in the cart?
