2008 IBAF Final Olympic Qualifying Tournament

March 7th, 2008 Shinsano · No Comments

My guess is that this tournament won’t be the most exciting thing in the world. Korea (who just beat South Africa 5-0) is clearly the class of the group, which leaves Taiwan, Australia, Mexico and Canada duking it out for the second and third Olympic invites.

Taiwan’s been playing pretty badly as of late and they have three major injuries, but if they don’t make it to Beijing there’s going to be riots. So I’ll go with the home team to gut one out. Australia looked great at the IBAF World Cup, so I’ll also take them. The rest of the teams are Spain, South Africa and Germany (ha ha).

On the opening day, four games will take place at the Taichung International Baseball Stadium and the Touliu Baseball Stadium, in central and west Taiwan respectively.

This article in the Bangkok Post gets into how the winners might play in the full Olympic field.
